Early Music Concert

The Charm of Baroque Music

Baroque vocal music (from the early 17th to mid-18th century) occupies a significant place in world music culture. Baroque music was often written by virtuoso singers and musicians, so it was very complex and made extensive use of 'ornamentation', often of an improvisational nature.

Performing Baroque vocal music requires the singer to be flexible and timbral rich in voice and breath, so the arias of the old masters are a kind of alphabet for the singer’s vocal-technical skills. Even today, concerts of Baroque music gather large audiences.

Baroque music had an enormous influence on the development of subsequent eras. Its echoes can be heard in operas and concertos, quotations of Bach’s music appear in heavy rock solos, pop songs are largely based on the Baroque 'golden ratio', and jazz has to some extent adopted the art of improvisation.

The Anima di Barocco String Quartet, soprano Madina Islamova and countertenor Batyrzhan Smakov will present an evening of early music.

The programme includes instrumental and vocal works by Baroque composers such as Vivaldi, Handel, Benda, Pleyel and others.
