The spring premiere of the one-act opera buffa Il campanello di notte by Gaetano Donizetti will delight the audience, featuring students of the International Opera Academy “ASTANA OPERA”.
Il campanello is an opera buffa written by the composer in 1836 to his own libretto, the main idea of which was inspired by reading a French vaudeville. Not all of Gaetano Donizetti’s more than seventy operas are equally well-known. Il campanello is less popular than well-known masterpieces of the genre; however, musically and especially vocally, the opera is on par with his best works (L'elisir d'amore, Don Pasquale), which, among others, adorn the repertoire of the Astana Opera House.
Synopsis
The events of the opera unfold over the course of one night in the home of an old apothecary who has married a young girl. The idyll of the newlyweds is persistently disrupted by the flighty lover of the young wife. Continuously ringing a bell, Enrico annoys the newlyweds, appearing in various guises with the obvious intention of preventing the apothecary Annibale and his wife, the beauty Serafina, being alone together. However, the cunning tricks of passionate Enrico are just one of the fascinating plot points of the performance...
