KHAN SULTAN. ALTYN ORDA

Khan Sultan - the mother of  Berke Khan, one of the great Kagans of the Golden Horde. The third wife of the founder of Ulus Dzhuchi Khan. The senior daughter of Shah of Khorezm Ala-ad-Din Muhamed II. Native sister of famous Jalel-ad-Din.

The libretto begins with the period of Genghis Khan's conquest of Khorezm and ends with the formation of the Golden Horde. In 1221 Genghis Khan conquered Urgenysh, the capital of Khorezm. Khorezm Shah Jalel-ad-Din escapes in Manguber, and Khan Sultan together with her grandmother Turken Khatun is captured by Genghis Khan. During the division of the booty she is assigned to Jochi.

As the daughter of the Shah of Khorezm, it was clear that Khan Sultan was highly valued. There is a lot of meaning in the fact that she became the prey of Jochi. Jochi was not only Genghis Khan's most grasping son, but also the crown prince of the Kagan. For 6 years of living together with Jochi she gave birth to three sons (Berke, Berkeshar, Bori Muhamed). Obviously, not only as a trophy from the enemy, but also as a daughter of the Shah, as a potential competitor in intra-clan fights, she was harassed by Jochi's older wives, also by other influential women of the horde. However, this problem becomes even more serious after Jochi's sudden death. Berke is still young, and the two youngest children are practically toddlers.

In such a difficult time, Khan Sultan saves her status, and the lives of her sons, with her intelligence, personality, and political skills. Khan Sultan, who managed to win the respect of Batu Khan, the famous Kagan of the Golden Horde after Jochi, as his youngest mother, did her best to ensure that his children were not left on the side, among the many unknown princes. She leaves this world only when her eldest son Berke grows up and goes on his first campaign and begins to become famous.

The libretto reveals the image of Khan Sultan, known and unknown in history. It sings the ages, life and achievements of the ancestor of all Kazakh khans Jochi. Khan Sultan is first of all an outstanding figure who was included in list of heroines mothers of our history. The libretto also features the wise Borte and several famed women, led by Bektemish. The driving theme catalyst for the plot is the palace's various relationships.
