The Humanitarian Foundation “Degdar” and the orchestra STEPPE MUSIC present one of the most well-known orchestral compositions of the Baroque composer George Frideric Handel (1685–1759) – Water Music.

Handel is considered a European composer. He was born in Germany in the same year as J.S. Bach. After receiving musical education and experience in Italy, he moved to London and eventually became a British subject.

Handel wrote the suite Water Music for a festive royal procession sailing on the River Thames. King George I, an admirer of Handel’s music, was so impressed that he ordered the concert to be repeated twice before dinner and once after.

Water Music consists of three suites with a total of 20 pieces of dance character. The majestic overture is followed by a variety of stylised dance pieces: minuets, bourrées, hornpipes, rigaudons, several slow movements labelled as “aria” and more.
