On 14 April 2020, a Baroque music concert will be held in the Chamber Hall of the Astana Opera House. The programme features works by Antonio Vivaldi and Alessandro Scarlatti, as well as compositions by other Western European composers of the Baroque era.

The eternal baroque music, so beloved by modern listeners, will be performed by countertenor Batyrzhan Smakov and the string quintet Anima di Barocco.

This year is the anniversary year for the Italian composer of the Baroque era Alessandro Scarlatti (360 years since his birth), and musicians will pay tribute to the Baroque master.

Fascinated by famous The Four Seasons, we can easily imagine the author as an inspired romantic and nature lover. However, one should not forget that Antonio Vivaldi was a priest. And in his Stabat Mater and Nisi Dominus, the whimsical imagination did not soar freely. It, like flowers, blossomed on the mighty tree of a centuries-old tradition. Stabat Mater dolorosa (“The sorrowful mother was standing”) is a medieval chant performed on the Day of the Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary, as well as on Good Friday during Holy Week. Latin poems telling about sorrows of the Mother of God at the foot of the cross at Calvary were set to music by more than 200 composers. Among which are Pergolesi, Haydn, Schubert, Rossini, Liszt, Verdi, Poulenc and Pärt.

Stabat Mater by Antonio Vivaldi will be performed at the concert.
