The musicians of the Astana Opera Symphony Orchestra are once again delighting fans of double bass music with a concert programme featuring works written for the largest and loudest instrument.

Composers of the Classical era and even later Romanticism were not inclined to write concertos for double bass.

The Italian composer and virtuoso Domenico Dragonetti was one of the first to believe that the voice of the double bass sounds impressive not only in unison with ‘higher’ instruments but also deserves solo expression. He elevated the instrument’s prestige, and in his wake, a whole pleiad of masters emerged in Italy who understood the specific nature of the double bass. Among them was Giovanni Bottesini, who knew how to highlight the instrument’s sound within the orchestra.

The voice of this magnificent instrument will grace an evening of chamber music. The double bass group artists of the Astana Opera Orchestra will perform solo and ensemble pieces from both classical and national repertoires, bringing the audience into a wonderful mood.
