The play «Report for the Academy»

The play is based on the story «Report for the Academy» by F. Kafka. It is the story of a monkey captured by sailors who had to go to the big city, get a name and become human in order to survive. Paul Beatriz Preciado's 2019 performance for the Academy of Psychoanalysis uses this image to criticise systems of patriarchal colonial oppression.

The performance is a multi-layered collage. Hypertext in six languages is composed of acting speech, video art, subtitles, audio and photo materials. The human body slips away from the centre of attention, leaving the viewer a polyphonic ‘cosmos of information’ in which they choose their own path.

We explored how theatre can work in a situation of global crisis of communication. The result is a performance in which everyone in the audience becomes an active author of their own experience, selecting and putting together their own story from the general flow.
