On 5, 6 January 2021, The Nutcracker by the great Russian composer P. Tchaikovsky will be performed at the State Opera and Ballet Theatre “Astana Opera”.
Production by the outstanding choreographer of our time – People’s Artist of the USSR, Laureate of the State Prizes – Yuri Grigorovich. Set Designer – People’s Artist of the USSR, Laureate of the State Prizes – Simon Virsaladze.

This New Year ballet, based on E.T.А. Hoffman’s fairy-tale The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, is equally interesting for both children and adults. Bright living toys, a Christmas tree and a mysterious magician attract the kids... The adults will hear not only joy and harmony in the genius music of Tchaikovsky – Yuri Grigorovich has transformed a sweet tale into a philosophical contemplation about the impossibility of ideal happiness. Moreover, this is a poetic story about growing up and anticipation of love. The main heroine along with the young audience begin to understand that the Nutcracker has a brave and kind heart, which his ridiculous appearance has hidden, while her love and compassion for the toy leads to an encounter with a Prince. Though, only in her dream...
