Messa di Gloria

The Astana Opera House will present masterpieces of world musical classics – Giuseppe Verdi’s Stabat Mater and Giacomo Puccini’s Messa di Gloria performed by soloists, chorus, and symphony orchestra under the baton of Honoured Worker of Kazakhstan Yerzhan Dautov.

Stabat Mater is a spiritual work by Giuseppe Verdi for soloists, chorus and orchestra. “The sorrowful mother was standing beside the Cross weeping” – the heartfelt words and full of drama music of the mature Verdi leave an indelible mark in the heart of a listener. Everything the composer learnt, endured, and experienced in life was poured into this piece. There is not a single unnecessary stroke or incorrect note – only prayer and spiritual emotions.

Messa di Gloria is a rarely performed piece by the young Giacomo Puccini. According to the composer himself, the Mass was named Messa di Gloria because it has a more glorifying than liturgical character. To make his work easier for the public to perceive, the composer introduced the melody of a popular folk song of the Tuscany region into the most striking place of the Qui tollis peccata.

The Mass is written to the traditional text of Catholic worship in Latin and consists of 5 parts:

1. Kyrie

2. Gloria

3. Credo

4. Sanctus e Benedictas

5. Agnus Dei
