After the sudden death of the Pope, the cardinals prepare for the conclave - the election of a new head of the Catholic Church. Cardinal Lawrence is entrusted with presiding over this sacred sacrament. But he soon realizes that a conspiracy is being hatched among the high clergy, and learns a secret that could shake the very foundations of the Church.
