ASTANA OPERA PRESENTS Double-Reed Festival Second Concert THE CONCERT IS HELD IN KAZAKH AND RUSSIAN The Astana Opera House presents to classical music lovers the second of two concerts within the Double-Reed Festival. Woodwind instruments with a double-reed (sound-producing device consisting of the two blades of a special kind of reed) are the oboe, the English horn, the bassoon and the contrabassoon. The second concert of the Double-Reed Festival is dedicated to the bassoon and music specifically written for this instrument. The concerts were initiated by concertmasters Honoured Worker of Kazakhstan Damilya Makhpirova (oboe) and Asset Neldybayev (bassoon). The programme will feature some of the most virtuosic and popular pieces, as well as rarely performed musical compositions specifically written for bassoon.
