In the year of the 150th anniversary of the great composer and pianist Sergei Rachmaninoff, “A Tribute to Rachmaninoff” Festival will feature a concert performance of the one-act opera Aleko with opera soloists, the Astana Opera Symphony Orchestra and the North Kazakhstan Philharmonic Chorus.
The author of the project, conductor and artistic director of the festival: Honoured Worker of Kazakhstan Abzal Mukhitdin.
The production of Aleko is also dedicated to the 80th birthday of the Honoured Artist of Kazakhstan, Holder of the Order of Parasat, Chorus Master Yuri Kolchin.
Aleko is a one-act opera based on Pushkin’s poem The Gypsies. The action takes place in a gypsy camp. The plot is based on a fateful love triangle: the beautiful gypsy girl Zemfira, Aleko, who has left the city because of his love for her, and a young gypsy, whom Zemfira has fallen in love with.
