The Almaty Circus is probably one of the most recognizable buildings in the southern capital. It appeared in 1979 and was initiated by D. Kunaev.   

The building of Almaty Circus

The master-builder was of Almaty Circus Vladimir Katsev. On his account such objects as VSK Medeu, Sholak Palace of Sports, Eastern Calendar Fountain. Vladimir Zelikovich was able to build a large scale and thoughtfully, that's why the circus building turned out to be thorough and comfortable, as it remains to this day.

It consists of three parts:

• The main circular body.
• Administrative and domestic housing.
• The inner courtyard.

In 2003-2006 the circus was for the first time renovated. Most of the transformations took place in the auditorium: the seats were replaced by soft, theatrical seats, but due to this the number of seats was reduced to 1798. The acoustics was also improved and modern lighting equipment was installed. The foyer was renovated, the latrines were organized for people with disabilities (by the way, there were no serious alterations to be done here, because Z.Katsev envisaged this in his project). In 2012, a hotel was opened at the circus in Almaty, and in 2017. - its own museum.

The life of the Almaty Circus is boiling. There are performances of the local troupe, circuses from other cities with tours, festivals and celebrations. Artists from Almaty Circus give charity concerts and tours in Kazakhstan and abroad.
