An Evening of Chamber Music

The State Trio of the Republic of Kazakhstan FORTE-TRIO of the State Concert Organization “Qazaqconcert” of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan opens a spring series of concerts at the Astana Opera House.

It is not the first season when fans of instrumental music are going to be pleased by the FORTE-TRIO performance in the Chamber Hall of the theatre. During the previous seasons, they presented a wide variety of programmes: from Vivaldi to contemporary Kazakhstani composers.

All the FORTE-TRIO musicians are famous instrumentalists and prizewinners of international competitions. Artistic Director of the ensemble – Honoured Worker of Kazakhstan Timur Urmancheyev.

At the concert, the FORTE-TRIO ensemble will present masterpieces of chamber music – the piano trios by Ludwig van Beethoven and Ernest Chausson.

Ludwig van Beethoven's first Piano Trio in D major for piano, violin and cello, op. 70 is considered one of his most famous works in the genre. It was dubbed the 'Ghost' Trio. Its minor slow movement reminded Beethoven’s pupil Carl Czerny of the scene from Shakespeare, where Hamlet meets the ghost of his father. However, the music does not relate to Hamlet, but to Macbeth. In 1808, Beethoven worked on Macbeth opera, and the musical ideas of this unfinished work were embodied in the slow movement of the Trio.

Trio for piano, violin and cello, op. 3 by the French composer Ernest Chausson of the second half of the 19th century is one of the early works of the author. The Trio reveals a wide range of human feelings, from ardent, passionate confession to tragic despair. Musically, it is close to the style of Johannes Brahms. Throughout the entire work, the composer achieves an amazing fusion of the sound of three instruments, alternately bringing to the fore each of them and forcing them to be perceived as a single instrument at the climax.
