Symphonic Music Concert

Soloist: Alexander Kutuzov (Piano)

A symphonic music concert featuring works by Johannes Brahms and Sergei Rachmaninoff will be performed by the soloist Alexander Kutuzov (piano) and the Astana Opera Symphony Orchestra under the baton of the Honoured Artist of Kazakhstan, Abzal Mukhitdin.

Alexander Kutuzov is a renowned pianist and winner of numerous international competitions. The capital’s audience fondly remembers his triumphant performance at the Astana Piano Passion International Competition (2013), where he won the Gold Medal. His accolades include prestigious awards (Grand Prix and First Prizes) at international competitions in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Montreux, Kyiv and others.

The pianist has toured with concert programmes in Hamburg, Munich, Vienna, Milan, Venice, Paris, as well as in cities across Russia, Belarus and Ukraine.

For his performance on the Astana Opera stage, the pianist has chosen one of the lesser-performed works of the Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff his Piano Concerto No. 4. It is hoped that Alexander Kutuzov’s interpretation will unveil new meanings in this magnificent piece for the audience.

The symphonic orchestra will also perform Brahms’ final symphony a pinnacle of his creative output and an embodiment of his principle of blending romanticism with classicism. Noted musicologist and critic Ivan Sollertinsky described this work as progressing from “elegy to tragedy”. The unique polyphonic finale, as well as the first two movements rooted in Baroque music, not only marks Brahms’ work as the culmination of the 19th century but also builds a bridge across two centuries.

The interpretation of this German romantic masterpiece will be presented by the symphony orchestra under the direction of the renowned opera and symphonic conductor Abzal Mukhitdin.
