Dmitry Balandin - Kazakh swimmer, Olympic champion.
Dmitry got into swimming in 2003. 5 years later he moved to a boarding school for talented athletes.
The talented swimmer started winning awards at the age of 14. The first serious trophy for him was the Popov Cup. In 2011, at the Asian Championships, he was among the silver medalists.
Later on, the athlete's moneybox was replenished with many prizes for his participation in the Universiades and Asian Games:
3 gold medals (Incheon, 2014);
"gold and bronze (Gwanju, 2015);
"bronze" and "silver" (Taipei, 2017);
three bronze medals (Jakarta, 2018).
Dmitry Balandin's main achievement is gold in the 2016 Olympics (200 m breaststroke). For the first time in history, the athlete from Kazakhstan won the main award in swimming.
Dmitry holds a diploma in higher education - in 2016 he graduated from the Kazakh National University. His specialty is physical culture and sport. After completing his studies, the young man went to Nur-Sultan. During the year he was doing military service in sports.
Since 2019, Dmitry has been training in California (USA). Already in 2020, he plans to perform at the Olympics in Tokyo.
Dimitri Balandin: Family life
Dmitry grew up in a sports family: his father is a volleyball player, while his mother went skating.
In 2016, a new swimming pool was opened in Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and it was named after the champion.
The swimmer is the winner of the Daryn Youth Award of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
He is fond of snowboarding. He has a pet, a Husky dog.
