Yeldos Smetov - the Kazakhstan judoist who despite a young age already repeatedly had time to glorify the country on the world scene.
The five-year-old Yeldos was sent to judo because his older brother Zhandos was engaged in this sport, and the next year, Yeldos won the first championship.
Studying at the school was actively combined with training and competition, and by the end of it, the amateur passion for judo had turned into a professional activity. After 11th grade, he entered the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology at Al-Farabi University but did not leave the sport. For good results, he was enrolled in the youth national judo team of RK and at this time at the championships of 2010 and 2011, he took gold and bronze medals. The transition to the adult team has brought new victories:
Gold - World Championship 2015 and Asian Championship 2014 and 2016.
1st place - Asian Games 2014.
Silver - Olympic Games 2016.
Bronze - Asian Championship 2014.
Yeldos Smetov continues to hold the bar high: in 2018 he won the "Grand Slam" tournament in Ekaterinburg (Russia), and in 2019 - Grand Prix in Antalya (Turkey). At the moment he has more than 15 awards in his piggy bank, won at national and international competitions. Now Yeldos Smetov is training hard and preparing for the next championships.
Yeldos Smetov: Family
The athlete leads a non-public life and prefers to share his sporting achievements with fans, not to advertise relationships.
At the age of 9, Yeldos fell hard, his parents were sure he wouldn't go back to sports after that.
Islam Yashuyev defeated his rival in "Grand Slam" in just 2 minutes and 20 seconds.
Due to the injury in Jakarta I will not be able to continue fighting for the exit in the second final.
