Mazurkas, Waltzes and Polonaises…

An evening of piano music

Soloist – Nurlan Izmailov, Honoured Worker of Kazakhstan

On 7 December, the renowned Kazakhstani pianist, Honoured Worker of Kazakhstan Nurlan Izmailov will give a piano music concert dedicated to the 100th anniversary of birth of E.G.Gilels in the Chamber Hall of the Astana Opera House.

N. Izmailov was fortunate to be a student of one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century - Emil Gilels, whose unusually extensive repertoire included piano works from the Baroque (J.S.Bach, D.Scarlatti) to the 20th century music. His playing was distinguished by impeccable technique, brilliance and strength of performance and at the same time by profound lyricism, delicacy of interpretation and subtle sense of style.

“When I think of Gilels, I always compare him with Capablanca. Capablanca didn’t make separate moves - they have always been tightly linked and created a chess picture. Gilels didn’t have separate notes; he created a musical picture (M.Botvinnik. Emil Gilels: distance meetings).

The concert programme will include works by the Polish composer Frédéric Chopin, which Nurlan Izmailov has been performing throughout his creative career. It is a kind of a musical offering of the memory of the great musicians and pianists - Frédéric Chopin and Emil Gilels. N.Izmailov offers his interpretation of the Romantic composer’s immortal masterpieces.
