The Astana Opera Orchestra artists continue the series of concerts “Quartet Music Season” dedicated to the music of quartet geniuses. In the fifth concert famous Kazakhstani musicians present compositions by Alexander Borodin, one of the founders of the quartet genre in Russia, and Antonín Dvořák, a brilliant representative of Czech Romanticism.
Borodin’s quartets are an example of how graceful “living room music” can also be a true artistic revelation. The Second Quartet can be seen more often than other chamber works by the composer in concert programmes throughout the world, and the slow movement – Notturno – is especially well known and regularly played on radio stations as a popular classic.
Antonín Dvořák’s works, in which he combined classical traditions with original features of national music, were appreciated all over the world because his musical inventiveness was as rich as the uniqueness of his melodies.
Edvard Grieg wrote in an article dedicated to the memory of Dvořák: “...His string quartets and quintets are masterpieces which will long outlive their author.”
