Musical and theatrical performance «Christmas in the Russian village»

Christmas, one of the main holidays in Russian culture, was traditionally celebrated in the villages. But many traditions have become worn out, forgotten, lost their original meaning, and it is so interesting to look at least one glimpse into a bygone era!

The ensemble of Russian traditional music «Pozagorodami», which has already performed on the stage of La Boheme theatre many times, together with the folklore ensemble «Alive», have prepared a real event for you - a visual demonstration of village Christmas customs, rituals, songs and amusements, among which the custom of caroling stands out. You will see with your own eyes on 18 January how carols took place, what they meant, what songs and tunes they were accompanied by. And not in the format of a lecture or presentation, but with real carolers, dancing, to psaltery, violins, balalaikas, tambourines and whistles!

In addition, the performance will be attended by cheerful young people from the «Ataman» ensemble and girls from «Gorenki», who are studying folklore and learning to play the psaltery.
