“A Delightful Sound of Cello”
(In memory of People’s Artist of the USSR Natalia Shakhovskaya)
“A Delightful Sound of Cello” concert will feature works for cello by classical composers performed by the renowned Kazakhstani musician, laureate of the Foundation of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of culture and art and winner of international competitions Yermek Kurmanayev, and pianist Anara Kamelinova.
This concert will honour the memory of the well-known Soviet and Russian cellist, teacher, People’s Artist of the USSR and Professor Natalia Shakhovskaya (1935-2017).
Natalia Shakhovskaya was one of the most talented and beloved students of the legendary Mstislav Rostropovich. Her playing was characterized by depth and meaningfulness, multicolored sound and temperament. In 1962, Shakhovskaya won the first prize at the Tchaikovsky Competition and began teaching at the Moscow Conservatory. She toured in many countries worldwide. Her repertoire included almost all the classical solo and ensemble works for cello. S.Berinsky, S.Gubaidulina, L.Knipper, N.Sidelnikov and S.Tsintsadze dedicated their compositions to Natalia Shakhovskaya. Among her students are Honoured Artists of Russia and winners of international competitions, one of them is Yermek Kurmanayev.
