A penniless and morbidly proud student, Raskolnikov decides to test whether he is capable of an act that elevates him above ‘ordinary’ people. To do so, he murders the loan shark - and then her sister, who happened to be at the scene of the crime. The name of the murderer and the elements of the crime are known from the very beginning, and the inevitable approach of the punishment is the intrigue.

The thrill of the play is combined with existentialist philosophical questions about individual freedom.
