The Return of Orpheus

(An Evening of Baroque Music)

The programme will include works by such great composers of the Baroque era as J.S. Bach, G.F. Handel, C.W. Gluck, C. Monteverdi, F. Paer, A. Vivaldi, L. Rossi, L.Boscherini and others, as well as arias from operas based on the myth of Orpheus.

The young Kazakhstani countertenor Batyrzhan Smakov, who has a rare type of classical male singing voice, will take part in the concert. Having graduated from the Kazakh National University of Arts, he continued his studies at the Academy of Operatic and Vocal Arts (Osimo, Italy) and has also underwent master classes given by such professors of solo singing as Alla Simoni, Anna Vandi (National Academy of St Cecilia, Rome), Raina Kabaivanska, Lella Cuberli (Teatro alla Scala, Milan), Stefano Demichelli, Antonio Juvarra, Harriet Lawson, Alessandro Benigni, Cristina Mazzavillani Muti, Gianni Tangucci, William Matteuzzi, Alberto Zedda, and Gemma Bertagnolli. He is currently a soloist with the KazakhConcert.

By giving this Baroque music concert titled “The Return of Orpheus”, Batyrzhan celebrates his return to his home country after completing his Master’s degree at the Music Conservatory in Pesaro (Italy). Last year he presented an interesting programme in the Chamber Hall of the Astana Opera, and the audience warmly received the talented singer.

The concert will also feature Honoured Artist of Kazakhstan Makpal Bekmagambetova (violin) and winners of international competitions Askar Mukanov (cello) and Balzhan Saparova (flute). Piano – Raushan Beskembirova.
