Concert in memory of Kairolla Zhumakenov

The “Dedication to the Teacher” concert, devoted to the 60th anniversary of the birth of the remarkable musician and teacher, talented Kazakhstani flutist, Professor Kairolla Zhumakenov (1955-2008), will take place in the Chamber Hall.

He was called ‘the golden flute of Kazakhstan’. Coworkers, friends and colleagues from different countries spoke of him with enthusiasm: “His playing is notable for its beautiful and noble sounding; his performance breathing is perfect, every phrase is polished and finished. Flutist’s interpretations captivate listeners by their depth and sincerity.”

Kairolla Zhumakenov is a laureate of International Competitions in Odessa (1983) and Phoenix (USA, 1998). He was not only a great musician, but also a teacher with 30 years of experience. Since 1979, he had been teaching at the Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory. Since 1998, he had been heading the department of wind and percussion instruments, and later he was appointed dean of the orchestra faculty at the Kazakh National Academy of Music (the Kazakh National University of Arts).

On the initiative and with the support of K. Zhumakenov, the Wind Orchestra of the State Philharmonic of Astana and a flute ensemble were created.

The concert will include works from K. Zhumakenov’s concert repertoire as well as works by classical and contemporary composers.

Flute players of the Astana Opera Orchestra, a flute choir, a cello ensemble, teachers of the department of wind and percussion instruments of the Kazakh National University of Arts, friends and colleagues, as well as students of the renowned musician – winners of national and international competitions, working in different creative teams of Astana, will perform in the concert.
