A CONCERT IN THREE MOVEMENTS

(To the 130th anniversary of Zhumat Shanin)

 

Renowned violinist and conductor Arman Murzagaliyev presents a concert entitled “In Three Movements”. It will include works by Alfred Schnittke, Giya Kancheli, Henry Purcell, Jean-Philippe Rameau and other composers.

The two-part programme also features first violinist Kalamkas Zhumabayeva of the Astana Opera Symphony Orchestra, percussionist Yerbolat Tashkenbayev, pianist Zaru Zhazykbayeva, as well as opera soloists, chorus and the theatre’s Chamber Orchestra.

 

Arman MURZAGALIYEV

Being a direct descendant of the founder of professional Kazakh theatre directing and Kazakh Musical Drama Theatre, the first People’s Artist of the Kazakh SSR ZHUMAT SHANIN, he worthily represents the performing arts of our country far beyond its borders. The vivid and versatile performing talent of the violinist has always been received enthusiastically by audiences from different countries and continents.

Graduated from the K. Baiseitova Republican School of Music (class of Professor Svetlana Abdusadykova), Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory and Longy School of Music Extension Division of Harvard University. He has performed as a soloist and ensemble partner in concert halls in Europe, East Asia and both Americas.

Some of the great names with whom he has collaborated over the years include Ivry Gitlis, Joseph Silverstein, Levon Hambardzumyan, Yoel Levy, Giya Kancheli, Mstislav Rostropovich, Valentin Silvestrov, Paul Schoenfield and many others.

In Kazakhstan, Arman Murzagaliyev is known as the founder and artistic director of the FORTE MUSIC FEST international classical music festival and Winds'n'Roses Orchestra, founder of the REMY chamber ensemble and the SEASONS classical music concert series, and in the USA as the founder and active member of the New England Chamber Music Society (Boston, Massachusetts).

In Arman Murzagaliyev’s sumptuous, at times aesthetic concert programmes, audiences in Kazakhstan have discovered musical rarities and masterpieces by such composers as Toru Takemitsu, Arvo Pärt, Nikolai Kapustin, George Enescu, Alfred Schnittke, Sándor Szokolay, Aaron Copland, Alberto Ginastera, Henry Purcell, Arturo Márquez and Giovanni Bononcini.

With his irrepressible creativity, Arman Murzagaliyev convinces listeners of the relevance of the genre of classical music as a segment of culture, as well as the need to maintain high standards in performance. Every programme proposed by Arman Murzagaliyev is an amazing fusion of intelligence, research, dedication and hard work of a musician.

 

Kalamkas ZHUMABAYEVA (violin) soloist and first violinist of the Astana Opera Symphony Orchestra. Laureate of the State Prize for high achievements in the field of culture and art of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Recipient of the Grand Prix and winner of many prestigious international competitions. Her solo repertoire includes works by Kazakh, Russian and Western European composers. She has collaborated with such renowned conductors as Gergiev, Dutoit, Leaper, Jenkins, Anisimov, Wildner, Bushkov, Allemandi, etc.
