Temirzhan Yerzhanov’s Recital (USA)

 

The American conductor and pianist from Kazakhstan, Temirzhan Yerzhanov will give a piano recital for the first time at the Astana Opera.

On September 7, Temirzhan Yerzhanov will present a solo programme, which includes Mozart’s Fantasia, Schumann’s Carnaval, Grieg’s From Holberg's Time and Chopin’s Ballade No. 4. The concert will be held in the Astana Opera Chamber Hall.

Temirzhan Yerzhanov was the first musician from independent Kazakhstan who represented this country in the international arena: he won the First Prize and Gold Medal at the International Robert Schumann Piano Competition 1993 in Zwickau, Germany. Since then, he has performed in 12 countries, appearing in prestigious venues such as New York Carnegie Hall Stern Auditorium, London Wigmore Hall, Berlin Konzerthaus, Leipzig Gewandhaus, the Grand Hall of the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic, Dresden Sempergalerie, the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, Paris Salle Gaveau, etc.

He has a special affinity to vocal music having performed with such internationally acclaimed singers as Elena Kelessidi and Melody Moore (sopranos), Catherine Cook and Suzanna Guzmán (mezzo-sopranos), Erik Kurmangaliev (alto), Ao Li (bass-baritone) and Sergey Zadvorny (bass). Among the national premieres performed by the artist are Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle and the programme Sergei Prokofiev. 1942–1943. Alma-Ata, which featured works composed in the musician’s home city.

Temirzhan Yerzhanov was awarded the ‘Best Accompanist Prize’ at the Tchaikovsky Vocal and Elena Obraztsova Opera Singers International Competitions; he has experience of working with the Opera San Jose, Festival Opera, Opera Academy of California and New Opera New York City. He has conducted the Kazakh State Academic Symphony Orchestra and Chorus at the premiere of Mozart’s Idomeneo and Krönungsmesse; the Orquestra Capital Philharmonia Brasilia, the Symphony Orchestra of the Abai Kazakh State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre, the Orchestra Gradus ad Parnassum, the Google Orchestra, as well as the Opera Cultura, where he works as the music director.

A graduate and former faculty member of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, Temirzhan Yerzhanov studied with Professor Mikhail Voskressensky and Professor Vazha Chachava. Later he studied conducting with Latvian-American conductor Imant Airea. He was named ‘Best Performer’ by the San Francisco Classical Voice along with soprano Angela Gheorghiu and the San Francisco Opera, Artemis Quartet, Mark Morris Dance Group, Medieval Trio and Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra. In his native country, he has been awarded with Yenbek Sinirgen Qairatkeri, the highest honorary title for national contribution.
