A May Evening of Cello Music

On 25 May 2019, “A May Evening of Cello Music” will take place in the Astana Opera Chamber Hall. The concert will feature the Kazakhstani cellist, winner of international competitions Saniya Durkeyeva, Professor of the Zurich University of the Arts Orfeo Mandozzi (Switzerland) and the Astana Opera Chamber Orchestra. Conducted by Honoured Worker of Kazakhstan Abzal Mukhitdinov.

 

Saniya Durkeyeva graduated from the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory (class of Professor, People’s Artist of Russia Igor Gavrysh). While being a student, she won the 1st International Zagir Ismagilov Musicians Competition in Ufa (Russia, 2008) and the 1st International Svyatoslav Knushevitsky Cello Competition in Saratov (Russia, 2012).

She is currently finishing her studies at the Zurich University of the Arts: Master Performance under Professor Orfeo Mandozzi (cello) and conducting under Professor Marc Kissóczy.

From 2017 to 2018, she underwent training course with the Bern Symphony Orchestra.

Since 2017, she has been holding a scholarship of the Live Music Now Foundation, created by Yehudi Menuhin in Zurich.

Saniya Durkeyeva has performed as part of the orchestras and under the direction of such celebrated conductors as Bernard Haitink, Ralf Weikert, Mario Venzago, Vag Papijan, Jochem Hochstenbach, Kevin John Edusei, Hans Christoph Bünger, Ernst van Tiel, Christian Schumann and Pavel Gershtein.

She gave her first recital abroad in Zell am See (Austria) in 2013. She performs not only as a solo performing musician, but also in various chamber ensembles in the halls of Austria, France, Switzerland, the USA, Russia and Kazakhstan.

 

Orfeo Mandozzi is a Swiss cellist. He made a name for himself at the Eurovision Young Musicians contest. He has won many national competitions, as well as the International Brahms Competition (Pörtschach, Austria) and UFAM (Paris, France).

He actively gives solo concerts and performs along with such renowned musicians as Nikolaj Znaider, Julian Rachlin and Yuri Bashmet. He collaborates with celebrated conductors, including Fabio Luisi, Kristjan Järvi and Michail Jurowski. His performing style is highly praised by the connoisseurs: “...it is so fascinating that just takes your breath away”.

He is also a member of the Vienna Brahms Trio, along with Boris Kuschnir (violin) and Jasminka Stancul (piano).

As a soloist, Orfeo Mandozzi performs with conductors, such as Fabio Luisi, Kristjan Järvi, Gerhard Markson, Andrew Litton, Hermann Breuer, Alfred Eschwé, Ola Rudner, Jesus Amigo, Giancarlo Andretta, Filip Bral, Thomas Briccetti, Mario Venzago, Michail Jurowski, Denise Fedeli, Christian Kolonovits, Peter Keuschnig, Georg Mark, Gunnard Mattes, Andres Orozco-Estrada, Arid Remmereit, Karolos Trikolidis, Kees Bakels, Simon Blech, Philippe Entremont and many others.

His international solo career includes tours through nearly all European countries, the United States, South- and Central America and the Middle East.

Orfeo Mandozzi’s radio, TV and CD recordings have won prestigious international awards. His world premiere recording of the Fiala cello concertos alone sold over 4000 copies.

Orfeo Mandozzi has appeared in some of the world’s finest concert halls, including the Carnegie Hall (New York), Wigmore Hall (London), Vienna Musikverein, the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Cologne Philharmonic Hall, the Casals Hall (Tokyo), the Auditorio National (Madrid), the Teatro Colón (Buenos Aires), the Alice Tully Hall (Lincoln Center) and the Tonhalle (Zurich).

He plays the instrument made in Cremona by the master Francesco Ruggeri in 1675. Since 1999, he has been teaching at the Zurich University of the Arts and the International Piano Academy in Imola (Italy). He is a guest professor at the Tianjin Conservatory of Music, China.
