Concert dedicated to the 90th birthday of People's Artist of the USSR

Yermek SERKEBAYEV

The legendary singer, People's Artist of the USSR Yermek Serkebayev would have been 90 years old in 2016. The State Opera and Ballet Theatre “Astana Opera” will give “The Blue Sky is Above Me…” concert to mark this special day.

The renowned Kazakh singer was called the “King of Baritones”. His vocal abilities and acting skills were brilliant, and his both opera and chamber repertories were wide-ranging. Having sung Aleksandr Zatsepin’s song “The Blue Sky is Above Me” in Shaken Aimanov's musical comedy, in which he played himself, Yermek Serkebayev became even more famous. Only one role – and he has forever written his name into the history of the Kazakh cinema.

On the programme: works from the repertoire of the “Golden Voice of Kazakhstan” as well as arias from operas by Kazakhstani and foreign composers, folk songs, romances and instrumental works. The concert will feature opera singers, Chorus and Symphony Orchestra of the Astana Opera House.

The concert will feature:

Laureate of International Competitions Maria Mudryak (soprano, a graduate of the Milan Conservatory)
