“Music Forever”

An Evening of Early Vocal Music

The “Music Forever” concert will take place in the Chamber Hall of the Astana Opera House. 

The term ‘early music’ comprises music, composed prior the 18th century, including Baroque music. There is a great number of secular early music works. During the Baroque period, the limits of music genres became wider, and such kind of musical pieces as opera appeared, where, along with the usual voices, the special male voice – countertenor - was very popular.

Countertenor is a high male alto voice, common in the church music of the 16th and 17th centuries. In the 20th century, there was great interest in and renewed popularity of the countertenor voice, due to the spread of early music ensembles, promoting the so-called ‘authentic’ (genuine, original) style of performance.

Among the famous singers-countertenors of our time are the British singers A. Deller, P. Esswood and J. Bowman; J. Gall, the USA, J. Kowalski, Germany, as well as the Kazakh singer Erik Kurmangaliev (1959-2007).
