ASTANA-ARKAU

11th TURKIC MUSIC FESTIVAL

As part of celebrating the 20th anniversary of Astana, the 11th International Turkic Music Astana-Arkau Festival will be held from July 4 to July 5 in the Chamber Hall of the Astana Opera House.

2018 is a remarkable year for Kazakhstan. This year the Kazakhstani people marks the 20th anniversary of Astana, the capital city, which has become a symbol of international unity and concord for the whole world.

During 11 years, Astana has been initiating large-scale meetings of representatives of various peoples of Turkic civilization. Regular hosting of the Astana-Arkau Festival has encouraged the revival of traditions of international communication on an interstate level, as well as has strengthened the role of Kazakhstan as a patron- unifier of Turkic music culture.

The concerts of the Astana-Arkau Festival will feature music of almost all Turkic peoples performed by renowned virtuosos, most of whom are known beyond the geographic borders of their countries.  There will be performed pieces of music genres that are highly appreciated and loved by listeners both in the East and the West,  such as shamanic singing, virtuoso compositions for khomus (shan-kobyz), throat singing, epic and instrumental compositions, and lyrical songs of Turks from Central Asia and Kazakhstan,  Transcaucasia, Anatolia, Povolzhye (the Volga Region) and Siberia.

The Festival will bring many pleasant surprises to connoisseurs of a musical legacy of the Turkic world, and become a bright event that will make a lasting impression on residents and guests of the Kazakhstani capital.
