Music For All Ages

An evening of symphonic music featuring works by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Max Bruch and Tles Kazhgaliyev will take place in the Main Hall of the Astana Opera House.

It has become a good tradition for the Astana Opera to invite celebrated musicians to perform as soloists and conductors along with the Symphony Orchestra. The world-famous musicians, who among others included Zubin Mehta, Valery Gergiev, Plácido Domingo, Marco Boemi, Renat Salavatov, Vladimir Kiradjiev, David Geringas, Giuseppe Acquaviva and Eugene Kohn, conducted the orchestra of the opera house at different times.

The Astana Opera Symphony Orchestra is notable for its highest professional level, and continues to surprise and amaze listeners with the original programmes.

The concert Music For All Ages will feature the Astana Opera Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Honoured Artist of Russia Alexander Titov.

 

Alexander Titov graduated from the Leningrad State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory as a pianist, and choral and symphonic conductor (class of Ilya Musin). He underwent a training course at the Tanglewood Music Center (USA).

In 1988, he won the International Music Competition for Conducting in Tokyo. He was an assistant conductor to Gennady Rozhdestvensky and Mstislav Rostropovich, as well as a guest conductor of the Mariinsky Theatre, the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. He has performed at La Scala, La Fenice, the Metropolitan Opera, the San Francisco Opera, the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and the Opéra Bastille.

In 2007, he was appointed as director of the St. Petersburg State Academic Symphony Orchestra. Alexander Titov participates on a regular basis in numerous festivals, including Stars of the White Nights, From the Avant-Garde to the Present Day, The St. Petersburg Musical Spring, and the Mariinsky Ballet Festival. He has recorded more than 80 discs.

He is the head of the department of opera and symphony conducting of the St. Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory. He has been awarded the title of Honoured Artist of Russia and the Highest Theatre Prize of St. Petersburg Golden Soffit.

 

Bagdat Abilkhanov (Concertmaster of the Symphony Orchestra - 1st violin)

Graduated from the State Kurmangazy Conservatory in Almaty (1998), and then completed his postgraduate training course at the Kazakh National Academy of Music (2001).

He was a first violin with the Gaziza Zhubanova State String Quartet (1997–2002).

From 1999 to 2004, he underwent training courses at the International Summer Academy of the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.  Bagdat Abilkhanov serves as a juror for many international competitions, including the International Perozi Competition (Milan, 2005) and Rovere d’Oro (Italy, 2005).

He was a concertmaster of the State Chamber Orchestra “Academy of Soloists” (2002–2007) and the symphony orchestra of the Baiseitova National Opera and Ballet Theatre (2007–2013).

Since 2013, Bagdat Abilkhanov has been a concertmaster of the symphony orchestra - 1st violin with the State Opera and Ballet Theatre “Astana Opera”. He has performed with the orchestra on tour around the USA, Canada, France, the Netherlands, Italy, Hungary, Belgium, Russia and other countries. He often gives concerts as a soloist and is the author of the “Musical Intersection” creative project.

Among his awards are the titles of the laureate of International Shostakovich Competition (Moscow, 1999, 2001), the International Bellini Competition (Sicily, 2000) and others. He was awarded the “Yeren Enbegi Ushin” medal (2001) and the State Youth Award “Daryn” (2004).
